Forgotten History Emerged From Drying Lakes

Forgotten History Emerged From Drying Lakes

As drying lakes shrink around the world due to climate change, many submerged historical sites and lost archaeological treasures in various regions are being revealed.

Here are some of the monuments that made an appearance:

  1. Dolmen of Guadalperal, Spain - an ancient stone monument similar in shape to Stonehenge that emerged from the parched lake bed of Valdecañas reservoir due to historic heatwaves and drought.

  2. Sunken treasures in Texas: As lake waters receded, the Texas drought revealed sunken treasures, including shipwrecks, antique weapons, and old bottles. In addition to these treasures, dinosaur tracks have also been uncovered in Texas during the drought. The drought has exposed 113 million-year-old dinosaur tracks belonging to an acrocanthosaurus, considered one of the world's best-preserved dinosaur tracks. As the lake's water levels drop, the submerged historical sites become visible, providing tourists with a unique and unforgettable experience.

  3. Ghost towns near Lake Mead, Nevada - Droughts have caused the water level of Lake Mead to drop, revealing ghost towns that were submerged underwater for years.

  4. Ancient ruins along the Danube River, Europe - There have been recent discoveries of well-preserved Roman fortress walls in the Danube River region, specifically in Ruse, northeastern Bulgaria and the Danube Delta in Romania.
